"Children's rights are children's business too. As part of a campaign promoting children’s rights, young people are invited to enter a poster contest. Prizes and a trip to Brussels await the winners. The focus of this year's competition is the idea that children have the right to protection from abuse and neglect. Participants are asked to design a poster to convey this notion. The commission hopes the contest will get children talking about situations where they can and should seek help. To encourage reflection, there will be two age categories (10-14 and 15-18) and participants must work in groups of at least four. Teaching kits are available for adults who want get involvedNow in its third year, the contest drew more than 6 000 participants last year (three times more than 2006).The entries will be judged first at national level, with prizes handed out in ceremonies in each country on 20 November - International Children’s Rights Day.The national winners will get to compete in a second round at European level. In December the three top teams in each age group will be invited to Brussels for an award ceremony and a tour of the city and European institutions. Winning posters will be displayed on the websites of the EU and the commission’s office in their country. They may also be used in future European campaigns on the rights of children. The competition is part of a wider EU effort to ensure children grow up safe from harm. Other measures aim to: make the Internet safer. A mechanism for blocking online purchases of child pornography is now in place; make child protection a priority the world over; fight trafficking and the sexual exploitation of children. This includes a hotline devoted to missing children"
